TALLHASSEE, FL --The Florida A&M Rattlers took a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hang on and fell 11-8 to the North Florida Ospreys Saturday.
Freshman Carson Kelly (0-1) came out of the bullpen for Florida A&M (5-12) and took the loss. Senior Dallas Tease was a bright spot for the Rattlers, starting the ballgame and throwing four scoreless innings, allowing one hit, with four walks and three strikeouts.
In the batter's box, the Rattlers were led by senior True Fontenot, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run and four RBI. Freshman Broedy Poppell put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk and an RBI. Senior Jalen Niles also contributed for Florida A&M, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the third inning. Florida A&M pushed across two runs in the frame, the big blow coming on an RBI double from Poppell.
The Ospreys failed to push any runs across before the Rattlers built on their lead in the fifth inning. Niles came across to score the lone run of the inning for Florida A&M, which brought the score to 3-0 in favor of the Rattlers.
Florida A&M's lead had evaporated once the eighth inning came around and turned into an 11-3 North Florida advantage, when the Rattlers cut that deficit to 11-8. The Rattlers bats heated up in the inning, scoring five runs, including a grand slam off the bat of Fontenot. The Rattlers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
