Rattlers to host Texas Tech in doubleheader season-opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –– Florida A&M softball returns and opens with a big doubleheader versus Texas Tech on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 3 p.m. Eastern, with the second game to follow 30 minutes after the first game ends.

The Rattlers return four of their top seven hitters after losing their top three from the 2023 season: Jania Davis, Melkayla Irvis, and Jane'a Mobley. Their top returning hitters are Kiauna Watson (32), Mia Blasingane (31), Nyah Morgan (31), and Amaya Gainer (29).

The Rattlers also return two players from the mound after losing Nadia Zenteno. Lauryn Peppers is the lone returning pitcher, winning seven games and leading the team with 75 strikeouts. Kayla Aldridge is the other pitcher, but she did not play in 2023.

Coach Patterson added a mixture of transfers and freshmen to the squad for 2024.

The Red Raiders enter the season after finishing 31-22 last season and 5-13 in Big 12. The Red Raiders return one of their big hitters in Kailey Wyckoff, who finished the season with 59 hits and scored the most runs with 60. The Red Raiders also returned their top pitcher, Sage Hoover, who finished with 14 wins.

The Rattlers will also play Florida State twice and Charlotte this weekend at Florida State as part of the JoAnne Graf Classic.
