VERO BEACH, Fla. --Senior True Fontenot racked up five hits and senior Adam Haidermota added four more to help lead the Florida A&M Rattlers past the Southern Jaguars 16-1 on Sunday.
Junior Jacob Granger (1-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Florida A&M (4-3). The right-hander went six shutout innings while giving up three hits, allowing no walks and striking out four.
In addition to his five hits, Fontenot had four RBI to lead the Rattlers. Haidermota added three doubles and two RBI to his four-hit performance as well. Senior Sebastian Greico also helped out for Florida A&M, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a home run and three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Fontenot's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Florida A&M.
The Jaguars failed to push any runs across before the Rattlers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Florida A&M offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of junior Janmikell Bastardo, which brought the Rattlers lead to 7-0.
Florida A&M held Southern scoreless before building their lead to 11-0 in the fifth inning. The Rattlers bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run home run off the bat of Greico.
Florida A&M held the Jaguars scoreless before their offense got back in action the next inning. The Rattlers scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of junior Ryan Little, bringing the score to 16-0 in favor of Florida A&M. Southern put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Rattlers still coasted to the 16-1 win.
