Florida A&M leaves 11 on base in 5-4 loss to Prairie View A&M

VERO BEACH, Fla. --Though they had plenty of opportunities, Florida A&M had a hard time cashing them in, leaving 11 Rattlers on base in a 5-4 loss at the hands of the Prairie View A&M Panthers on Saturday.

Senior Andrew Ginther (0-1) came out of the bullpen for Florida A&M (3-3) and took the loss. The right-hander went 3.1 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits, allowing one walk and striking out five.

Freshman Ben Kim led the way offensively for the Rattlers, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a double and two RBI. Freshman Joseph Pierini furnished a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and two walks. Senior True Fontenot also chipped in, going 1-for-3 for Florida A&M with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rattlers were trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Florida A&M scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Kim.

The Rattlers kept the Panthers off the board before tying it up in the sixth. Florida A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Fontenot, which brought the score level at 3-3.

Prairie View A&M busted up the tie and grabbed a 4-3 lead moving into the eighth, when Florida A&M tied the game at four. The Rattlers scored a run when freshman Broedy Poppell drew a walk from junior Leonardo Bravo that scored Pierini. Prairie View A&M then scored one time over the remaining one inning to break the tie and grab the 5-4 win.
