MONTGOMERY, Ala. --The Florida A&M Rattlers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to an 8-2 win against the Southern Jaguars on Saturday.
Freshman Zoryana Hughes (0-0) got the win for Florida A&M (2-12). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on two hits, allowing four walks and striking out five.
In the batter's box, the Rattlers were led by freshman Aniya Canty, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Junior Kayla Alexandre compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Junior Samantha Smith also contributed for Florida A&M, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

The Rattlers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Senior Nyomi Jones came across to score the lone run of the inning for Florida A&M and get them on the board.
