Jones notches 2 extra base hits in Florida A&M's loss to Tennessee State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --The Florida A&M Rattlers got a big game out of senior Nyomi Jones, who collected two extra base hits in a 7-4 loss to the Tennessee State Tigers Thursday.

Junior Lauryn Peppers (0-3) started and took the loss in the circle for Florida A&M (0-11). Junior Samantha Smith was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going four innings, surrendering one run on four hits, walking two and striking out one.

Jones' two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day, and included two doubles and three RBI. Senior Nyah Morgan put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-2 with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rattlers were trailing 2-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Florida A&M scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Jones.

The Tigers broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the fourth inning, when the Rattlers got back on the scoreboard. Florida A&M pushed across a run on Jones' two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 6-3 in favor of the Tigers.

Florida A&M held the Tigers off the board before narrowing the gap to 6-4 in the fifth. The Rattlers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Morgan. The Rattlers were unable to get any closer, as Tennessee State added one run to their tally on the way to a 7-4 final.
