Florida A&M leads from third inning on in 6-5 win against Eastern Illinois

TALLAHASSEE, FL --The Florida A&M Rattlers took a 3-0 lead in the third inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 6-5 win against the Eastern Illinois Panthers on Friday.

Senior Caleb Granger (1-0) got the win for Florida A&M (1-0). The right-hander went six shutout innings, giving up two hits, one walk and striking out four.

In the batter's box, the Rattlers were led by junior Jakoby Stanley, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Senior Jalen Niles put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with two doubles. Freshman Broedy Poppell also contributed for Florida A&M, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rattlers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Florida A&M scored three times, picking up one on an RBI base knock off the bat of Poppell.

The Rattlers then held the Panthers scoreless before expanding their lead in the fifth inning. Florida A&M picked up two runs, including one on a solo dinger off the bat of Stanley, which brought the score to 5-0 in favor of the Rattlers.

Florida A&M held Eastern Illinois without a run before building their lead to 6-0 the following inning. The Rattlers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of freshman Josue Figueroa. Eastern Illinois put five runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Florida A&M still held on for the 6-5 win.
