Rattlers win again in Al Lawson, improving to 2-0 at home

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –– Florida A&M (2-5) held off a late rally from Presbyterian (5-5) to secure a 66-63 home victory at the Al Lawson Center on Tuesday night.

The Rattlers used a strong first half to build a 32-22 lead at the break, with Sterling Young providing a spark off the bench with 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting. FAMU's defense held Presbyterian to just 25.8% shooting in the opening period.

After building their largest lead of 13 points at 50-37 midway through the second half, FAMU had to weather a fierce comeback attempt by the Blue Hose. Presbyterian's Kory Mincy scored 22 of his game-high 29 points in the second half, including several clutch baskets that helped trim the deficit to just one point in the final minute.

However, Jocobi Hendricks came up big down the stretch for FAMU, hitting two critical free throws with 5 seconds remaining to push the lead to three. The Rattlers then forced a turnover on Presbyterian's final possession to seal the win.

FAMU's bench was crucial in the victory, outscoring Presbyterian's reserves 31-5. The Rattlers also capitalized on 20 Blue Hose turnovers, converting them into 20 points.

Jordan Chatman had a solid all-around game with 8 points and 6 rebounds, while Ja'Derryus Eatmon added 7 points, and Milton Matthews contributed 13 points, including several timely three-pointers.

The win improves FAMU's record to 2-5 on the season as they continue their non-conference schedule. The Rattlers showed improved shooting, hitting 37.3% from the field and 75% from the free throw line while holding Presbyterian to just 35% shooting overall.
