TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman added another chapter to its storied rivalry Wednesday (Oct. 9). Let the record reflect that Rattler volleyball defeated B-CU 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-14).
GAME NOTES
- In the win, FAMU (13-5) improved to 5-0 in SWAC action and 7-0 at home
- The decision marked the Rattlers' ninth sweep of the season and their fourth straight
- FAMU is also currently working a six-match winning streak
- Iyonnie Sanford (13) and Brooke Lynn Watts (12) each recorded double-digit kills
- Watts has recorded a double-double in back-to-back matches; she also totaled 10 digs versus B-CU
- Alexandra Koleva finished with 32 assists, seven digs, and three kills
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE | The set was pretty evenly played at the start – eight ties and three lead changes – before FAMU embarked on a 12-3 run. Sanford was a bright spot for the Rattlers, totaling six kills on a .556 hitting percentage. The Wildcats totaled six kills the entire set.
SET TWO | It didn't take long for the Rattlers to separate themselves in the second frame, which began with an 8-2 run. They led by as many as nine.
SET THREE | Sanford and Watts kicked off the third with back-to-back kills. FAMU never trailed the entire set, at one point, commanding an 11-4 advantage.
The Rattlers will conclude their current homestand with back-to-back matches against Southern (Oct. 13) and Alcorn State (Oct. 14).
