DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Jalen Speer scored 32 points, but the Florida A&M men's basketball team fell to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 98-86 on the road Saturday.
Speer added six assists to his 32 point game to lead the Rattlers (2-10, 0-1). Shannon Grant helped out with 18 points and two steals and Roderick Coffee III chipped in with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals coming off the bench.
Florida A&M shared the ball well in Saturday's game, racking up 25 assists on 32 made field goals. Speer's six assists paced the Rattlers and Keith Lamar also chipped in with four assists of his own.
How It Happened
Florida A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 54-33 heading into halftime.
Bethune-Cookman kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 78-53 advantage before Florida A&M went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Hantz Louis-Jeune's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 78-61 with 9:12 to go in the contest. The Rattlers kept their comeback going, but Bethune-Cookman managed to hold on for the 98-86 win. Florida A&M got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 29 of its 53 total points.
