TALLAHASSEE, Fla. --The Florida A&M men's basketball team got a 27-point showing from the bench, but fell 74-65 to the Southern Jaguars at home Saturday.
The Rattlers (2-11, 0-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Hantz Louis-Jeune, who had 16 points and nine rebounds. Jalen Speer added 14 points and four assists and K'Jei Parker helped out with 13 points off the bench.
The Florida A&M offense was very productive from downtown, pouring in 12 threes on 29 attempts. Parker was the most prolific shooter for the Rattlers, draining three treys in the contest.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 12-11 advantage, Florida A&M went on a 6-0 run with 9:32 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Morrell Schramm, to increase its lead to 18-11. The Rattlers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 30-27.
Southern kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 56-39 advantage before Florida A&M went on a 7-0 run to shrink the deficit to 56-46 with 9:28 to go in the contest. The Rattlers kept their comeback going, but Southern managed to hold on for the 74-65 win. Florida A&M shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting six shots from deep to score 18 of its 38 points.
