PINE BLUFF, AR --The Florida A&M women's basketball team got a 32-point showing from the bench, but fell 85-62 to the UAPB Golden Lions on the road Saturday.
The Rattlers (2-13, 1-3) had three players score in double figures, led by Olivia Delancy, who had 22 points, six rebounds and two steals. Nashani Gilbert tacked on 12 points and seven rebounds and Ahriahna Grizzle helped out with 10 points and two steals.
The Florida A&M defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 17 UAPB turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 13 points on the other end of the floor. Delancy's two steals led the way individually for the Rattlers.
How It Happened
After falling behind 13-6, Florida A&M went on a 5-0 run with 55 seconds left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Grizzle, to narrow its deficit to 13-11, a score that would hold for the rest of the period.
UAPB kept adding to that lead, building a 35-26 advantage before Florida A&M went on a 6-0 run to narrow its deficit to 35-32, a score that would hold until halftime.
UAPB continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 47-36 advantage before Florida A&M went on a 6-0 run to trim its deficit to 47-42 with 2:43 to go in the third. UAPB countered and stretched its lead to 59-51 heading into the fourth. Florida A&M took advantage of five UAPB turnovers in the quarter, scoring eight points off of takeaways.
Florida A&M could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 85-62. Florida A&M fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 11 points.
