How It Happened
SET 1 | The opening set was the most evenly played; in fact, there were 15 ties in that frame alone. The last occurred at 21-all before the Rattlers went on a 4-0 rally.
SET 2 | Alabama State claimed a 12-2 advantage at the start of the second. London Hatch pulled the Rattlers within six, 13-7, with a service ace but it was the closest point differential the rest of the way.
SET 3 | FAMU fell behind on the first point and never clawed back into the lead before losing the set 25-19.
SET 4 | FAMU maintained a slight edge in the early goings of the fourth set until a 5-2 ASU run evened the score at 11-11. The visitors claimed their first lead on the following possession and remained in front until a bad set tied things at 18-all. FAMU had several opportunities to pull away – a block by Shelby Chamblin provided a 23-21 advantage – but ASU outscored its opponent 7-3 to conclude the match.
