Rattlers’ Solid Effort Not Enough in JAX Tournament Opener Versus Citadel

Jacobs and Watts each record double-doubles in Rattlers' 3-2 loss to Citadel.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. | The effort was there, but the Florida A&M volleyball team fell to the Citadel Bulldogs 3-2 (16-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 13-15) Friday at Swisher Gymnasium.

The non-conference loss dropped Florida A&M to 0-4 on the season.

The Rattlers were led by double-doubles from both Emerald Jacobs, who had 13 kills and 10 digs, and Brooke Lynn Watts, who had 17 kills and 14 digs. Jasmine Robinson also added 10 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Brooke Hudson chipped in for with 26 digs to go with four blocks from Isis Williams.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Rattlers found themselves in an early hole, losing a tough first set 25-16. Florida A&M trailed by as many as nine points as Citadel never gave up the lead in a set that was notted up just once before the Bulldogs took control.

SET 2 | Florida A&M rallied from a first-set loss to take set two 25-21, evening the match at 1-1. The Rattlers scored first and never trailed, opening up as much as an eight point lead at 13-5. Their offense also got a boost from three aces.

SET 3 | The Rattlers lost the first point and never clawed back into the lead before losing the set 25-20.

SET 4 | Florida A&M then responded to win set four 25-22 to force a fifth set. The Rattlers persevered in a back-and-forth set -- winning a stanza that featured three lead changes and nine ties. Neither team was able to grab a lead larger than four points along the way.

SET 5 | The Rattlers dropped the fifth set despite a strong showing on the attacking end. Florida A&M registered a .346 attack percentage with nine kills.
