Rattlers Fall to Buffalo

The Florida A&M volleyball team fell 3-1 to Buffalo Saturday (August 26) in a neutral site match inside Bartow Arena.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Florida A&M volleyball team fell 3-1 to Buffalo on Saturday (August 26) in a neutral site match inside Bartow Arena.  

Buffalo 3, FAMU 1 (20-25, 25-20, 23-25, 13-25)

The Rattlers trailed early in the opening set but narrowed their deficit on a 4-0 run. Dominique Turner concluded the stretch with a service ace, putting the team within one at 9-8; however, the rally was met by a 6-2 Buffalo run. The opposition went on to claim the set, 25-20.

The tide shifted in the second set, where the Rattlers struck early and often. Freshman Iyonnie Sanford recorded the first point, and the FAMU advantage quickly swelled from there. The team held an eight-point lead at 16-8 and never looked back – doubling their kill production between the sets (from eight to 15) and significantly improving their hitting percentage (.088 to .364). 

Neither squad gained much separation in the third; the evenly-match set captured six ties before Buffalo pulled ahead on a 3-0 run (16-13). FAMU embarked on a 3-0 run of its own while the Bulls sat at set point -- a bad set by UB followed by kills from Jasmine Robinson and Emerald Jacobs.

Brooke Lynn Watts posted a team-high 14 kills with 14 digs for the first Rattler double-double of the season. Emerald Jacobs finished second in points with seven kills and two blocks (a solo and an assist) while also adding 10 digs. 

The Rattlers conclude their appearance in the UAB Invitational on Sunday in a 2 p.m. match with the tournament host.
