2023 SWAC Softball Honorees

Rattlers have four named to the All-SWAC Softball Teams

GULFPORT, Miss. –– Florida A&M softball improved from the previous season with four student-athletes named to the 2023 All-SWAC teams led by first-teamers Melkayla Irvis and Jania Davis. Nyah Morgan and Jane'a Mobley made the All-SWAC Second Team.
 
"I'm excited to have Melkayla, Jania, Nyah, and Jane'a voted first and second team all-conference," said Head Coach Camise Patterson. "They have put in a lot of hard work this year, and to have that acknowledged by other coaches is incredible. Not only did these four lead conference and national statistics they will be alumna by the end of summer. I'm proud of them all."  
 
Melkayla Irvis - First Team
 
Melkayla Irvis was one of the top batters in the SWAC this year. Irvis also proved to be one of the best hitters in the nation when it came to triples, as she ranked 3rd in the nation with seven and 2nd in the nation in triples per game (first in the SWAC in both). Irvis also impressed with an OPS of 1.081 (6th in SWAC), on-base percentage of .487 (7th in SWAC), slugging percentage of .594 (8th in SWAC), batting average of .375 (8th in SWAC), 16 steals (14th in SWAC), and 24 runs scored (19th in SWAC). Irvis also had 36 hits, 18 RBIs, and seven doubles.
 
Jania Davis - First Team
 
Jania Davis led off for the Rattlers all season and led the team with 42 hits (11th in SWAC) and 31 runs (7th in SWAC). Davis finished second on the team with a .336 batting average (17th in SWAC). Davis also had 14 steals (17th in SWAC).
 
Nyah Morgan - Second Team
 
Nyah Morgan proved to be one of the Rattlers' top batters again after leading the team with 25 RBIs (11th in SWAC), 13 doubles (2nd in SWAC), and five home runs (9th in SWAC). Morgan also ranked 4th in the nation with six sac flies (1st in SWAC) and 26th in doubles per game (1st in SWAC). Morgan also had an OPS of .936 (17th in SWAC) and a slugging percentage of .561 (11th in SWAC). Morgan also earned one SWAC Co-Hitter of the Week.
 
Jane'a Mobley - Second Team
 
Jane'a Mobley proved to be one of the top hitters for the Rattlers after finishing with the second most hits (37, 21st in SWAC), RBIs (22, T-17 in SWAC), and doubles (11, 3rd in SWAC) on the team. Mobley also ranked 15th in the nation, with five sac flies (2nd in SWAC behind FAMU's Nyah Morgan). Mobley had an OPS of .837 and scored 14 runs. Mobley also earned one SWAC Hitter of the Week.
 
The Rattlers begin the 2023 SWAC Tournament Tuesday afternoon with a first-round game versus Grambling State at 12 p.m. Central.
