TALLAHASSEE, Fl --The Florida A&M Rattlers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 9-3 win against the Jackson State Tigers on Friday.
Junior Raylan Wagner (1-0) got the win for Florida A&M (15-17, ). The right-hander went 5.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing three walks and striking out two. Senior Zach Morea also pitched well, going 2.2 shutout innings while allowing three hits, walking one and striking out three.
Senior Jared Weber led the way offensively for the Rattlers, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a double, a triple and two RBI. Senior Ty Hanchey put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Senior Janmikell Bastardo also contributed, going 2-for-4 for Florida A&M with a double and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Florida A&M put up two runs in the frame, highlighted by an RBI triple off the bat of Weber.
The Tigers failed to push any runs across before the Rattlers built on their lead in the third inning. The Florida A&M offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Bastardo, which brought the Rattlers lead to 6-0.
