TALLAHASSEE, FL --Junior Sebastian Greico and senior Janmikell Bastardo each collected two extra base hits to help power the Florida A&M Rattlers over the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils 11-4 on Sunday.
Junior Raylan Wagner (2-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Florida A&M (21-18, ). The right-hander went six shutout innings, giving up one hit, three walks and striking out two.
Bastardo's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day, and included two doubles and a walk. Greico made his contribution with a double, a home run, a walk and six RBI, part of a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Senior Ty Hanchey also helped out for the Rattlers, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Florida A&M's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Greico.
The Rattlers then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the third inning after the Delta Devils cut it to 4-3. which brought the score to 7-3 in favor of the Rattlers.
Mississippi Valley State narrowed Florida A&M's lead to 7-4 before the Rattlers stretched the advantage to 8-4 in the fifth inning. The Rattlers added a run on junior Adam Haidermota's RBI double.
Florida A&M held the Delta Devils scoreless before their offense got in gear the next inning. The Rattlers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Hanchey, bringing the score to 9-4 in favor of Florida A&M.
The Rattlers kept Mississippi Valley State without a run before building on their lead to 11-4 in the eighth inning. Florida A&M pushed two runs across on a two-run double off the bat of Greico that brought home Hanchey and Bastardo. The score remained 11-4 for the rest of the game, as the Rattlers coasted to the win.
