Huntsville, ALÂ --Junior S. Greico and junior J. Pierini each racked up two extra base hits to help power the Florida A&M Rattlers over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 18-7 on Sunday.
Sophomore D. Tease (1-3) started on the mound and picked up the win for Florida A&M (18-17, 12-3). The right-hander went five innings, giving up five runs, all of them earned, on seven hits, allowing five walks and striking out four.
Pierini's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-5 day, and included two doubles and five RBI. Greico made his contribution with a double, a home run and four RBI, part of a 2-for-4 performance at the plate. Junior A.Haidermota also chipped in for the Rattlers, putting together three hits in three trips to the plate while adding a home run, a walk and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers were trailing 4-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Florida A&M scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run triple from senior J. Weber.
The Bulldogs expanded their lead to 5-3 before the Rattlers offense got back to work, taking the lead in the fourth. The Florida A&M offense exploded for six runs, highlighted by a two-run error off the bat of senior J. Bastardo and a two-run error from Pierini, which brought the Rattlers lead to 9-5.
Florida A&M kept Alabama A&M scoreless before building their lead to 11-5 the following inning. The Rattlers drove two runs across on a two-run double off the bat of Pierini that brought home A.Haidermota and junior T. Jackson.
Florida A&M held the Bulldogs scoreless before their offense got things moving the next inning. The three-run fram for the Rattlers was puncuated by a two-run homer from A.Haidermota. bringing the score to 14-5 in favor of Florida A&M.
Alabama A&M got within 14-6 until the Rattlers scored again in the seventh inning to stretch its lead to 18-6. The Florida A&M offense piled up four runs, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Greico. Alabama A&M put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Rattlers still coasted to the 18-7 win.
