GAME 2 | Alabama State 7, Florida A&M 6
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Florida A&M received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, but the Rattlers fell to the Alabama State Lady Hornets 7-6 Saturday.
Senior Nadia Zenteno (4-6) came out of the bullpen for Florida A&M (11-14, 5-4) and took the loss.
Senior Jane'a Mobley led the way offensively for the Rattlers, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double, a walk and an RBI. Senior Destiny Cuevas put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-4 with two RBI. Sophomore Kiauna Watson also contributed, going 0-for-2 for Florida A&M with two walks and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Florida A&M plated two runs off of Alabama State pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Mobley.
The Lady Hornets failed to push any runs across before the Rattlers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Florida A&M scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-run single off the bat of Cuevas, which brought the Rattlers lead to 5-0.
Florida A&M's lead had disappeared by the time the seventh inning came around and turned into a 7-5 Alabama State advantage, when the Rattlers cut that deficit to 7-6. The Rattlers scored a run when Watson drew a walk from freshman Bailey Greenlee that scored sophomore Alexis Jones. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.
