GAME 1 | Florida A&M 15, Alabama State 4
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Florida A&M got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Rattlers put 14 runs on the board and knock off the Alabama State Lady Hornets 14-4 Saturday.
Sophomore Lauryn Peppers (2-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for Florida A&M (11-13, 5-3). The right-hander went 4.2 innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on seven hits, allowing two walks and striking out four. Senior Cris'Deona Beasley also made an impact in the circle for the Rattlers, throwing 1.1 shutout innings while allowing no hits.
In the batter's box, the Rattlers were paced by senior Jane'a Mobley, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a double and three RBI. Senior Natasha Fox furnished a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Senior Melkayla Irvis also chipped in for Florida A&M, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Florida A&M scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Mobley.
The Lady Hornets then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 2-1 until the Rattlers expanded their advantage in the second. Florida A&M picked up three runs, including one driven in on a home run by Fox, which brought the score to 5-1 in favor of the Rattlers.
Alabama State narrowed Florida A&M's lead to 5-3 before the Rattlers stretched the advantage to 6-3 in the third inning.
Florida A&M kept the Lady Hornets without a run before building on their lead in the fifth inning. Junior Mia Blasingane's run-scoring single brought home one run in a two-run output for the Rattlers, bringing the score to 8-3 in favor of Florida A&M.
Alabama State got within 8-4 until the Rattlers scored again in the sixth inning to stretch its lead to 14-4. The Florida A&M offense piled up six runs, highlighted by a one-run single off the bat of Irvis. The score remained 14-4 for the rest of the game, as the Rattlers coasted to the win.
