Historic Rattler Relay Team to be Inducted into Bob Hayes Track & Field Hall of Fame

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. ––  Florida A&M's historic 4x100 relay team will be inducted into the Bob Hayes Track & Field Hall Fame. From 1966-68, Nathaniel James, Major Hazelton, Euguene Milton, and Jimmy Ashcroft were unbeatable at the Penn Relays. The foursome was enshrined in the FAMU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990; they will be honored at the 23rd Bob Hayes Track and Field Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on March 17.
 
The Class of 2023 includes:
 
The 1968 FAMU 4x100 Relay Team (Nathaniel James, Major Hazelton, Eugene Milton, James "Jimmy" Ashcroft): Undefeated in the Penn Relays three consecutive years from 1966- 1968; retiring the JC Patterson Cup in the 4x100 Relay with the same four sprinters.
 
Dr. Edwin Moses: Two-time Olympic gold medalist in the 400-meter hurdles.
 
Gail Devers: Two-time Olympic gold medalist in the 100-meter.
 
Leander McKenzie: Former Bob Hayes champion; top high school hurdler in the nation; the state's fastest time in the 800; number one junior hurdler in the world while a student at FSU; 10th best time in the USA 1984 400MH; ran his personal best at the 1984 Olympic Trials.
 
Brianna Rollins-McNeal: Former Bob Hayes champion and Most Outstanding Athlete of the 2009 Meet; 2016 Olympic champion in the 100-meter hurdles and 2013 World champion; three-time NCAA champion in the 60-meter hurdles; broke the NCAA record in the 100-meter hurdles in 2013.
 
Coach Freddie Stevens: The winningest high school coach in the history of Williams M. Raines High School, Jacksonville, 1976-1996, with 17 winning seasons, 24 championship titles, 11 Gateway Conference titles, 10 district titles, two regional titles, and a sectional title; helped over 200 students attend college; 14 players drafted to the NFL including Raines first NFL Hall of Famer, Brian Dawkins.
 
The ceremony, presented by Pepsi, the City of Jacksonville, Winn Dixie, and Harvey's BS, is scheduled to take place at The Potter's House International Ministries in Jacksonville. The inductees will also be recognized at the Bob Hayes Invitational Track and Field Meet on Saturday, March 18, during intermission.
