TALLAHASSEE, FL --Senior Ty Hanchey put together an outstanding showing at the plate Tuesday, hitting two home runs to help propel the Florida A&M Rattlers over the North Florida Ospreys 12-6.
Senior Amir Asghar (1-1) got the win for Florida A&M (3-6). The right-hander went five innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out two. Sophomore Caleb Granger also pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out three.
Hanchey went 3-for-5 at the plate, supplementing his two home runs with three RBIs. Senior Jared Weber added to Hanchey's awesome power-hitting performance by going 3-for-5 with a home run and an RBI. Junior Ethan Jenkins also helped out for the Rattlers, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Rattlers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Florida A&M scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run homer from Jenkins.
After the Ospreys rallied to tie the ballgame at three, the Rattlers came back to retake the lead in the third inning. Florida A&M pushed across a run on senior Janmikell Bastardo's one-out RBI double, which brought the Rattlers lead to 4-3.
Florida A&M held North Florida scoreless before expanding their lead to 8-3 the following inning. The Rattlers hit two home runs in the inning on the way to scoring four runs.
Florida A&M kept the Ospreys scoreless before building on their lead in the seventh inning. The Rattlers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of sophomore Will Brown, bringing the score to 9-3 in favor of Florida A&M.
North Florida got within 9-4 until the Rattlers scored again in the eighth inning to stretch its lead to 12-4. Florida A&M scored three times, with an output that included home runs from both Hanchey and junior Adam Haidermota. North Florida put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Rattlers still coasted to the 12-6 win.
