HUNTSVILLE, AL --The Florida A&M women's basketball team kept Alabama A&M to just 16.7 percent from 3-point range in a 3-for-18 shooting performance, but fell 77-65 to the Bulldogs on the road Monday.
The Rattlers (5-21, 3-12) had two players score in double figures, led by Dylan Horton, who had 21 points, six rebounds and two steals. Paulla Weekes added 12 points and Ahriahna Grizzle added nine points, eight assists and five steals.
Florida A&M out-rebounded Alabama A&M 42-39 in Monday's game, led by Staysha Allen's 12 boards. The Rattlers also pulled down 13 offensive rebounds and scored nine second chance points.
Florida A&M's defense held Alabama A&M to only 16.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc. The Rattlers also limited Amani Free to 0-of-7 shooting from downtown in the game.
How It Happened
After falling behind 7-2, Florida A&M went on a 5-0 run with 7:26 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Horton, to tie the game at seven. Alabama A&M then pulled ahead, sending the Rattlers into the second quarter down 20-13.
Alabama A&M kept adding to that lead, building a 35-27 advantage before Florida A&M went on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 35. Alabama A&M then took control, putting the Rattlers at a 39-37 disadvantage heading into halftime.
Florida A&M's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Rattlers faced a 59-49 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Florida A&M played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 12 points in the paint.
Alabama A&M kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 63-49 advantage before Florida A&M went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Grizzle's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 63-56 with 6:34 to go in the contest. Alabama A&M responded and outscored the Rattlers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 77-65. Florida A&M took advantage of two Alabama A&M turnovers in the quarter, scoring four points off of those takeaways.
