TALLAHASSEE, FL --The Florida A&M women's basketball team kept Grambling to just 6.7 percent from deep in a 1-for-15 shooting performance, but fell 61-46 to the Lady Tigers at home Saturday.
Ahriahna Grizzle led the Rattlers (5-22, 3-13) with nine points, five assists, two steals and two blocks. Ivet Subirats tacked on eight points and four steals off the bench and Dylan Horton helped out with 11 points.
Led by Eliya Ellis' two offensive rebounds, Florida A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in five second chance points.
Florida A&M's defense held Grambling to only 6.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
How It Happened
Florida A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The Rattlers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 29-11 halftime deficit.
Following halftime, Florida A&M kept the Lady Tigers from growing their lead before going on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Subirats, to trim its deficit to 46-33 with 12 seconds to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter. Florida A&M knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 22 total points.
Grambling kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 61-41 advantage before Florida A&M went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Staysha Allen's layup, to shrink the deficit to 61-46 with 21 seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game. Florida A&M took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 13 points in the paint.
