JACKSONVILLE, FL --The Florida A&M women's basketball team fell to the North Florida Ospreys 76-71 in overtime on the road Friday.
The Rattlers (1-10) had three players score in double figures, led by Ahriahna Grizzle, who had 31 points, four assists and two blocks. Nashani Gilbert tacked on 12 points and nine rebounds and Peryonna Sylvester chipped in as well with 10 points.
Led by Ivet Subirats' three offensive rebounds, Florida A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in 10 second chance points.
Florida A&M's defense held North Florida to only 15 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
How It Happened
After playing to a 16-16 tie early in the game, Florida A&M went on a 6-0 run with 1:15 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Sydney Hendrix, to take a 22-16 lead. The Rattlers then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 22-19 advantage. Florida A&M capitalized on seven North Florida turnovers in the period, turning them into nine points on the other end of the floor.
Florida A&M kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 7-0 run starting at the 9:38 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Subirats, to increase its lead to 29-19. The Ospreys cut into that lead, but the Rattlers still enjoyed a 33-27 advantage heading into halftime. Florida A&M forced three North Florida turnovers in the period and turned them into five points.
After intermission, Florida A&M held on to its advantage and owned a 46-44 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Florida A&M knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 13 total points.
Florida A&M then surrendered that advantage as North Florida forced overtime by tying things up at 62-62 by the end of the fourth. Florida A&M took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 16 points in the paint.
North Florida then took control in overtime and won 76-71.
