PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | The Florida A&M volleyball team has punched its ticket to its third consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament championship. The two-time defending champions will now meet Jackson State Sunday at 4 p.m. ET in a repeat of the 2021 title match.
No. 3 Florida A&M 3, No. 2 Prairie View A&M 2 (25-19, 25-21, 13-25, 23-25, 15-13)
SET ONE | Neither side could separate much until Jacobs's back-to-back kills ignited a 7-1 FAMU run; the Rattlers held a 17-11 lead at the end of the stretch and remained ahead.
SET TWO | Florida A&M and PVAM traded 3-0 runs to start the second set, and eight ties followed, the last at 15-all. The Rattlers distanced themselves with five unanswered points that transitioned into a 9-2 rally. They held their largest lead at 23-17.
SET THREE | Prairie View A&M controlled the third set, finishing with eight service aces and a set-best .273 hitting percentage. The Panthers managed a double-digit advantage for much of the frame.
SET FOUR | The Rattlers regrouped from the previous stanza by limiting PVAM to just four points in the early goings. They were the first to reach double digits – maintaining a 10-4 edge – but the Panthers refused to yield, evening the score at 17-all. The No. 2 seed claimed its first lead at 20-19, and withstood stalemates at 21, 22, and 23.
SET FIVE | The Rattlers cemented their spot in the SWAC Championships, while also stretching their current win streak to eight, with a 15-13 decision in the fourth. They were up 8-4 at the first media timeout and crowned the frame with a match-best .316 hitting percentage.
