Rattlers Quest for Three-Peat Falls Short in Championship Match

The Rattlers fell 3-0 to Jackson State in the SWAC title match.

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | The Florida A&M volleyball team's quest for its third consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference title fell short Sunday (Nov. 19) in a 3-0 decision to Jackson State. The third-seeded Rattlers concluded their 2023 season 18-14 overall, 12-4 in SWAC play; prior to meeting No. 5 JSU, they were working an eight-match winning streak. Additional season highlights include Brooke Hudson being crowned a two-time SWAC Libero of the Year. The graduate was a First Team All-SWAC selection alongside Brooke Lynn Watts and Camila De La Rosa. Isis Williams and Iyonnie Sanford were named Second Team All-SWAC.

No. 5 Jackson State 3, No. 3 Florida A&M 0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-22)

- Watts led the Rattler offense with 12 kills while Emerald Jacobs added eight kills and a team-high 11 digs
- Williams recorded seven total blocks (seven assisted), three kills, and three digs
- Hudson finished with 10 digs
- De La Rosa posted 24 assists and a match-high four service aces

SET ONE | Camila De La Rosa kicked off the SWAC Championship match with a service ace, and it catalyzed a 6-2 Rattler run. The high-action set captured four ties by the first media timeout, where the Tigers held a 15-12 advantage. Florida A&M regained its lead with the help of another 6-2 rally, but the 18-17 edge was short-lived as JSU responded with four straight points.

SET TWO | There were eight ties at the start of the second set, the last at 8-all, and the Tigers embarked on a 10-3 run for separation. Florida A&M was unable to pull any closer than three points (20-17) in the latter goings.

SET THREE | Jackson State held a slight 4-3 advantage and remained in front from there. A Brooke Lynn Watts kill evened things at 17 but preceded a 5-0 stretch from JSU.
