Welcome Rory Spencer

Coach McCullum announced Rory Spencer as new assistant coach

11/1/2023 11:11:00 AM

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –– Florida A&M men's basketball head coach Robert McCullum finalized his coaching staff with the addition of Rory Spencer.

"I'm excited to add Coach Rory Spencer to the FAMU men's basketball coaching staff," said McCullum. "I met Rory 13-14 months ago, and his enthusiasm and energy got my attention immediately. His experience at Chattanooga State Community College for the past two years, which included all of the team's operations, will help to make his transition to our program less challenging.

"In addition, his experiences as a Division I basketball player at Georgia Southern and overseas, and his work on the court at Chattanooga State, which I observed, will enable him to fit in well relative to his ability to teach.

"Last but certainly not least, being a native of Atlanta, Georgia, a hotbed for recruiting and an area we rely on heavily, is another 'feather in Rory's hat.'"

Coach Spencer joined the Rattlers after spending the last two seasons at Chattanooga State (2021-23). Spencer was pivotal in the Tigers' 26-6 win in 2022-23, the most wins in program history. Spencer developed Scooter Williams and Kyshawn Devlin, both named to the TJCCA All-Conference Team.

Before Chattanooga State, Spencer worked as a player development trainer from 2015-22 and with the Atlanta Hawks as a basketball development coach from 2015-22.

Spencer played professionally overseas from 2011-15 after playing at Georgia Southern from 2009-11. Spencer holds the single-season blocks record with 62 blocks during the 2009-10 season. Spencer played with current assistant coach Willie Powers III. Spencer is also a USA Basketball certified coach.
