Florida A&M loses to Jackson State 59-58, Tigers shoot 38 free throws to Rattlers 17

JACKSON, MS --The Florida A&M men's basketball team held Jackson State to just 15.8 percent from 3-point range in a 3-for-19 shooting performance, but fell 59-58 to the Tigers on the road Monday as the Tigers shot 38 free throws to the Rattlers 17.

The Rattlers (3-15, 1-6) had three players score in double figures, led by Jordan Tillmon, who had 13 points and four assists. Jaylen Bates tacked on 12 points and three steals and Noah Meren helped out with 11 points and three steals.

Florida A&M out-rebounded Jackson State 28-26 in Monday's game, led by six boards from Tarig Eisa.

Florida A&M's defense held Jackson State to only 15.8 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 36.4 percent from the field.

How It Happened

After falling behind 21-19, Florida A&M went on a 9-0 run with 6:25 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Eisa, to take a 28-21 lead. The Rattlers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 30-28 advantage. Florida A&M did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 18 of its 30 points close to the basket.

Jackson State proceeded to take a 51-47 lead before Florida A&M went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Dimingus Stevens' three, to seize a 52-51 lead with 6:06 to go in the contest. Jackson State re-asserted control, outscoring the Rattlers 8-6 the rest of the way to hand Florida A&M the 59-58 loss. Florida A&M got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for eight of its 28 total points.
