A Perfect Weekend for FAMU Volleyball

GREENSBORO, N.C. | The Florida A&M volleyball team will leave North Carolina with a clean sweep -- victories over UNC Greensboro, Elon, and North Carolina A&T. The latter success on Saturday (Sept. 10) captured the Rattlers' second straight-set decision of the Aggie/Phoenix Volley for Unity.

Versus the Aggies, Dominique Washington was a dig shy of another double-double, 12 kills, nine digs. Brooke Lynn Watts added 10 and seven, respectively.

Florida A&M 3, A&T 0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-23)

The Rattlers led most of the first set, hovering around a five to six-point advantage, but momentum began to shift late in the frame. Their 16-10 advantage shrunk to 18-16, and eventually, A&T tied the score at 21-all. The two traded a few points from there, which resulted in two additional ties, before back-to-back Aggie attacking errors lifted FAMU to the 25-23 win.

The back-and-forth play carried into the next set, where neither could create breathing room until a 5-0 Rattler run. Aja Jones crowned the stretch with a kill that provided their team a 9-5 edge, and FAMU maintained its cushion the rest of the way. Its hitting percentage improved from .139 in the opening frame to .630 in the second.

A&T started the final set up 5-1, but after seven ties and two lead changes, the Rattlers were back on top. The team used a 3-0 run with back-to-back service aces from Irem Ucar to gain separation.

Next up for FAMU is the Jaguar Invitational; it's scheduled to face Ole Miss, Eastern Kentucky, and South Alabama (Sept. 15-16).
