Softball Head Coach Constance Orr Moves On

7/29/2022 10:00:00 AM

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Florida A&M Softball Head Coach Constance Orr resigned after two seasons as the head coach and five seasons as an assistant coach at Florida A&M.

"I want to thank all of Rattler Nation for allowing me to be a part of this amazing community," said Constance Orr. "The experience during my time at FAMU has been second to none, and the softball program will forever have a special place in my heart."

Coach Orr arrived at Florida A&M in 2016 as the assistant coach under Hall of Fame Coach Veronica Wiggins. In Orr's first season as an assistant, the Rattlers won the MEAC Championship after defeating Bethune-Cookman in the championship game. In 2017, the Rattlers defeated Bethune-Cookman in the MEAC Championship to win their second straight championship with Coach Orr on staff. As an assistant, Coach Orr coached one MEAC Player of the Year and 21 All-MEAC Honorees.

Following the canceled 2020 season, Coach Wiggins retired, and Coach Orr was elevated to the Head Coach position. In Orr's first season, the Rattlers finished the season 6-22 (5-5) and had to end the season early due to COVID-19. In Orr's first season, the Rattlers had two named to the All-MEAC Teams (Seriah Brokenborough, First Team, and Kaylin Rhone, Third Team). In Orr's second season, the Rattlers finished the season 18-31 (12-12) and a SWAC Tournament appearance in the Rattlers' first season in the SWAC. Orr coached two Rattlers that were named to the All-SWAC Teams (Destiny Cuevas, First Team, and Cris'Deona Beasley, Second Team). Orr also coached Nyah Morgan, who ranked 22nd in the nation with 16 doubles.

"I want to thank Coach Orr for all she has done at FAMU both as an assistant and as a head coach and how she's helped move the program forward," said Interim Director of Athletics Michael Smith. "Secondly, we want to be supportive of what's next in her life, and third is what we do next in our program and begin the search for our next softball head coach.

"We will work with the administration to get that done as quickly as we can, so our student-athletes know that we are very serious about the best continuity for them and our program."
