Rattlers Drop Final Game of FGCU Classic

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Florida A&M volleyball team fell to Florida Gulf Coast, losing three straight close sets in the weekend's final game (22-25, 22-25, 19-25).

Junior Dominique Washington continued her strong offensive attack as she led the Rattlers with 17 kills. Emerald Jacobs followed Washington with eight kills and six by Jasmine Robinson.

Freshman Irem Ucar set up her teammates for 32 of the team's 36 assists and added ten digs. Defensively, junior Jessa Long led the Rattlers with 11 digs.

Florida A&M started the first set off red hot, taking an early 8-4 lead over FGCU before the Eagles would score six of the following eight points to tie the set at ten. Once tied at ten, the Rattlers and Eagles scored seven points to keep the set tied at 17. Four points later, a kill by Jasmine Robinson gave the Rattlers a 20-18 lead. From there, the Eagles went on a 7-2 run to win the set 25-22.

The Rattlers would go on another hot start taking four of the first five points of set two. From there, the Eagles would go on an 8-2 run to take a 9-6 lead. A kill from Robinson and two FGCU errors later would tie the match at nine. The Rattlers would go on an 8-4 run following the tie, including six straight points to take a 17-13 lead. The Eagles responded with a 12-5 run to take set two 25-22.

Unlike the first two sets, the Eagles took a commanding 10-4 lead. The Rattlers fought back with four straight points to bring the set within two before the Eagles went on another run to give them a 14-9 lead. Down five, the Rattlers battled back from three kills, an ace, and an FGCU error to tie the set at 14. Once tied, the Eagles went on a 6-1 run to take a 20-15 lead. The Eagles finished the match scoring five of the final nine to win the last set, 25-19.
