Washington Notches 100th Kill in Victory over Campbell

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Florida A&M volleyball team placed another tick in the winning column Friday (Sept. 10) with a rousing 3-1 victory over Campbell, which also saw Dominique Washington surpass her 100th kill of the year.

The junior outside hitter is the first in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) to accomplish the feat this season and is currently one of 25 in the country with 100-plus kills (123). Washington recorded a game-high 26 in FAMU's opening match of the College of Charleston Classic and helped secured the very first point of the afternoon by way of a solo block.

The Rattlers posted identical 25-22 scores in all three sets won after putting the first point on the board in each. The contentious, yet evenly played, match saw both teams battling for leverage, though neither pulled ahead by more than four points the entire afternoon. FAMU's only set loss fell by a score of 25-23.

Emerald Jacobs contributed 10 kills while Jessa Long, Irem Ucar, and Washington added 10 or more digs. Aybuke Kocabiyik was also a force at the net for three assisted blocks.

Tournament play continues Saturday with matches against Idaho State and the host College of Charleston. Action is scheduled for noon and 7 p.m., respectively.
