TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Florida A&M volleyball has their best weekend of the season after winning all three games at the Auburn Invite, including the enormous win over then-undefeated Auburn.
Rattlers concluded the weekend with a sweep over Nicholls State.
"We are delighted to see our team improve after a tiring tournament last weekend," said head coach Gokhan Yilmaz. "We had several players step up and give us quality offensive production this weekend.
"We played an outstanding match against Auburn, and it was nice to see us close out against two very good teams in Belmont and Nicholls State. Now we need to change our focus on our conference schedule as we open up against a tough Jackson State team."
vs. Nicholls State (25-21, 25-23, 25-23)
The Rattlers and Colonels opened the first set splitting the first 16 points until the Rattlers scored five straight to take a 13-8 lead. The Colonels would battle back to bring the set to 23-21 before a kill by Dominique Washington, and a service error by the Colonels would end the set.
The second set would be a back and forth battle until Colonels tied the set at 21. The Rattlers scored three straight with kills from Isis Williams, Dominique Washington, and an ace from Emerald Jacobs. The Colonels scored two straight, narrowing the Rattlers lead to 24-23, but Dominique Washington would finish the Colonels with a kill to win the second set.
The Rattlers started slow falling to the Colonels 5-0 but responded with their own 6-1 run to tie the set at six. The Colonels took a late 19-17 lead, but the Rattlers scored eight of the final ten points to win the set 25-21.
