TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Florida A&M volleyball team fell to South Alabama, losing three straight sets in the season opener (20-25, 19-25, 23-25).
Junior
Dominique Washington led the offensive attack with 13 kills. Washington was followed by eight kills from
Emerald Jacobs and five kills from
Karina Pressoir.
Freshman
Irem Ucar dished out 29 of the 32 team assists and added six digs. Defensively, junior
Dominique Washington led the Rattlers with 17 digs.
The Rattlers started with an early 2-1 lead in the first set before the Jaguars went on an 11-4 run to take a 12-6 lead. From there, the Rattler scored three straight to bring the set within 3 points 12-9. Then the Jaguars scored five of the following six points to take a 17-10 lead before finishing it off with a 25-20 set win.
Florida A&M opened set two on a decisive 6-3 run before allowing the Jaguars to go on their own 5-2 run to tie the match at 8. The Jaguars would ride their momentum, scoring seven of the following nine points to take a 15-10 lead. As the Rattler were down 21-15, they scored three straight to bring the set to a three-point difference before the Jaguars would go on a 4-1 run to end the set.
The Rattlers were the first to ten in the final set as they took a 10-7 lead. From there, Florida A&M extended their lead to five after going on a 5-3 run. The Jaguars fought back, going on a 7-2 run to tie the set at 17. The Rattlers and Jaguars battled back and forth before the Jaguars barely win the final set 25-23
The Rattlers return to action tomorrow as they have two matches. They will open up the morning versus Charleston Southern at 10 AM ET and finish the weekend versus Jacksonville at 3 PM ET.
