Tallahassee, Fla. | The Florida A&M volleyball team fell to FSU losing three straight sets after winning the opening set in tonight's exhibition (25-23, 15-25, 16-25, 12-25).
"We were very excited to be on the court, and I think the whole university was," said head coach
Gokhan Yilmaz. "It was a great crowd, and they were excited to see us back in action.
"The first set was great, and then the tempo dropped a little bit."
Freshman
Emerald Jacobs led the offensive attack with ten kills. Jacobs was followed by eight kills from
Karina Pressoir and seven kills from
Dominique Washington.
Junior
Mariana Donado Yepes dished out 23 of the 28 team assists and added seven digs. Defensively, junior
Jessa Long led the Rattlers with 15 digs.
The Rattlers came out strong, scoring the first two points of the match, and then went back and forth with the Seminoles the whole first set. The Rattlers were the first to 15 (15-13) and from there had a tough fight to finish the set as they both scored ten more points to end the set 25-23.
Florida A&M opened set two down 5-1 before going on a quick 3-2 run to close the gap 7-4. The Rattlers would go back and forth until it was 17-11, and from there, the Seminoles would go on an 8-1 run to finish off set two.
FSU would jump to a quick 7-3 lead to start the third set, but FAMU would score four straight points to even it up at 7. From there, the Seminoles would go on an 8-5 run to take the lead 15-12. The Seminoles would finish on a 10-4 run to win the third set 25-16.
Two straight points by the Seminoles started a solid fourth set for FSU. The Seminoles took a 20-8 lead before the Rattlers scored three consecutive points to bring it within nine. The Seminoles would go on a 5-1 run to win the final set 25-12.
