Tallahassee, Fla. | Three Florida A&M football student-athletes earned Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) honors as the Rattlers prepare for their first season in the SWAC. Safety
Markquese Bell, punter
Chris Faddoul, and defensive lineman Renaldo Flowers were named to the 2021 SWAC Preseason Football Team.
Bell looks to follow up a stellar 2019 campaign, in which he recorded 63 tackles, nine pass breakups, five interceptions, and four tackles for loss. Bell also earned 2021 Athlon Preseason All-American honors, 2020 College Sports Journal Preseason FCS All-American, 2020 All-MEAC Preseason selection, 2019 BOXTOROW All-American.
Faddoul is recognized as one of the nation's best punters after finishing 2nd in the nation for yards per punt in 2019. Faddoul is also listed as a 2020 William V. Campbell semifinalist, 2020 STATS FCS All-American, 2020 All-MEAC Preseason Team, 2020 HERO Sports All-American, and 2019 AP All-American.
Flowers broke onto the scene posting 23 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and four sacks during the 2019 season.
Head Coach Willie Simmons on Bell, Faddoul, and Flowers being named to the 2021 SWAC Preseason Football Team:
"I want to take this opportunity to congratulate these fine young men on their preseason accolades! Not only is their on-field prowess impressive, what they do in the classroom and the community speaks volumes as well! We're all very proud of them!"
The Rattlers were picked to finish second in the SWAC Eastern Division behind Alabama A&M and received 109 first-place votes for the 2021 season. Jackson State was chosen to finish third, followed by Alabama State, Bethune-Cookman, and Mississippi Valley State.
