Norfolk, Va. | Five Florida A&M baseball student-athletes were named to the 2021 All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Teams, announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Landing on the All-MEAC Second-Team was senior outfielder
LJ Bryant, and juniors
Kelyn Fox and
Seyjuan Lawrence. Earning third-team honors were sophomore outfielder
Jared Weber and redshirt-senior pitcher,
Chandellor Benton.
Bryantstarted 52 games for the Rattlers this season, leading the team in batting average (.309). The Leesburg, Ga. native drove in 33 runs with 16 extra base hits, including five home runs. His nine doubles tied for third in the conference. Bryant also ranked sixth in the MEAC in total hits with 51. He was second on the team in stolen bases (7).
Foxearned All-MEAC honors following a regular season where he went 7-2 with 3.86 ERA. Fox's seven wins ranked him second in the MEAC in total victories. Fox struck out 47 batters in 65.1 innings pitched. The junior from Bartow, Fla. also tossed two complete games.
Lawrencewas another one of FAMU's strongest hitters, sporting .286 batting average, the third highest on the team. He picked up 25 RBIs with six doubles and four home runs. The Tampa, Fla. product was one of the hardest people to catch stealing this season, going 9-of-9 on stolen base attempts.
Weber finished the 2021 regular season with the team's second highest batting average (.301) with 31 RBI. Weber also tied for team-lead in homeruns (5). The sophomore from Wakulla, Fla. also hit seven doubles with one triple and seven stolen bases.
Benton landed an All-MEAC selection after finishing as the second-best closing pitcher in the MEAC, in terms of saves. Benton racked up eight saves, earning one victory during the 2021 campaign. The Melbourne, Fla. native struck out 26 batters in 22.1 innings pitched. In conference play, Benton was nearly untouchable, sporting an ERA of 0.00 in 12 MEAC appearances.
