Florida A&M Baseball to Open MEAC Tournament Play Versus Norfolk State

Tallahassee, Fla. | The Florida A&M baseball team officially qualified for the 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Tournament last weekend, and will face Norfolk State at Marty L. Miller Field in Norfolk, Va. on Thursday.

Only the top two teams in each of the MEAC's divisions received bids to the tournament. FAMU (21-32, 15-13 MEAC), earned the No. 2 seed in the MEAC Southern Division to set up the matchup against NSU (22-26, 18-10 MEAC), who won the MEAC Northern Division crown, on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

This year's four-team, double-elimination tournament is set to run Thursday, May 20 through Saturday, May 22. Preceding FAMU's game on Thursday, North Carolina Central, the No. 1 seed in the MEAC South, takes on Delaware State, the No. 2 seed in the MEAC north, at 12 p.m.

FAMU returns to the MEAC Tournament after winning the 2019 title, rising from the loser's bracket and defeating NSU in back-to-back games on championship Sunday.

The Rattlers and Spartans have met eight times this season, with FAMU winning five of the contests.

The championship game is set for Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m., and will be broadcast live on FloBaseball, with the team from the winners' bracket needing only one win to claim the championship trophy. If the team that comes out of the losers' bracket wins the first game on Saturday, a second game will be played at a time to be determined.

Based on COVID-19 protocols that went into place this past Saturday, Marty L. Miller Field can allow a 50 percent capacity for the 2021 MEAC Baseball Championship. Fans can purchase tickets here.
