Jacksonville, Fla. | Florida A&M softball suffered back-to-back losses on day two of the JU/UNF Spring Break Challenge on Saturday afternoon. The Rattlers fell 18-0 to Jacksonville and 13-0 to Georgia State.
Game 1
FAMU had a tough go of it in the first contest of the day, as Jacksonville plated 18 runs on 12 hits.
Seriah Brokenborough and
Destiny Cuevas both went 1-for-2 with singles for the Rattlers.
The Dolphins exploded for 12 runs in the first inning, largely due to two homeruns hit by Roberts in her first two at-bats. Roberts hit a three-run homer in her first plate appearance and followed up with a grand slam in second at-bat.
Nadia Zenteno (0-3) pitched 3.0 innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits with three walks and one strikeout.
Skylar Whitty was the winning pitcher, working 3.0 innings, giving up one hit and striking out four.
Game 2
In the nightcap, FAMU was only able to tally one hit – a single to left field by
Kaylin Rhone.
Georgia State scored 13 runs on 11 hits and was led offensively by Bailee Richardson who went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Brandice Boatwright was given the loss. She tossed 2.1 innings, surrendering 11 runs on nine hits (eight earned) with three walks. Zenteno was solid in relief, working 2.2 innings, giving up two runs on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Emily Buck earned the win, tossing a complete game shutout, giving up one hit with two strikeouts and three walks.
