History Made, Rattlers Advance

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | No. 2 versus No. 7, and No. 2 Florida A&M advanced! The Rattlers will head to the semifinal round of the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament after sweeping Prairie View A&M, 3-0, Friday night (Nov. 19).

Who wanted it more?

The answer proved to be FAMU. However, it was a battle from start to finish, as shown in the 23 ties. The second set featured just one; though, after trailing much of the way, FAMU used 10 unanswered points to gain its advantage. The Green and Orange remained at set point for seven consecutive rallies as PVAM closed the distance. But, ultimately, the score favored Florida A&M, 25-23.

The Rattlers earned their 18th sweep of the season with the help of the SWAC's 2021 Player of the Year. Dominique Washington recorded a match-high 20 kills, the final broke the 22-all tie, and Emerald Jacobs closed the door. She secured set point before joining Alexys Mann at the net for the match-winning block.

The tournament opener was also a historic night for Irem Ucar and Jessa Long, who entered the school's record book. Ucar moved to 9th all-time in single-season assists (1,065) while her teammate ties for 9th in digs (426).

FAMU meets No. 3 Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a Saturday semifinal at 4 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. CT.
