HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | In its inaugural season in the league, the Florida A&M volleyball team secured a spot in the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship after posting a 3-2 victory over No. 3 Arkansas-Pine Bluff Saturday (Nov. 20).

The championship final will pit No. 2 Rattlers against No. 1 Jackson State Sunday at 3 p.m. CT / 4 p.m. ET. The regular-season series was even at 1-1, with both sides notching sweeps on their home courts.

FAMU sat on the positive side of a 12-6 advantage in the opening stanza against UAPB; however, it was the opposition that claimed the set win. An 11-1 run by the Golden Eagles shifted the energy inside T.M. Elmore Gymnasium, resulting in a 25-21 decision, and they continued to pressure the second-seeded Rattlers in the ensuing sets. Trading point for point, the scoreboard was locked at 21-all in the next frame until Emerald Jacobs and Jasmine Robinson helped the Rattlers separate. The duo recorded FAMU's last four points, and Robinson notched her 10th kill of the evening to cement the 25-22 score.

The Rattlers remained on the attack, mounting a six-point lead in the third en route to a 25-23 win. And they trailed by seven before staging a comeback in the fourth, where they went on to hold a 19-15 edge. The Rattlers couldn't sustain their lead in the 29-27 setback, but handily put away the deciding set, 15-8.

Robison and Dominique Washington each tabbed 20 kills, and the latter -- the 2021 SWAC Player of the Year -- also added a double-double on a game-high 17 digs. Jacobs was a dig shy of posting a double-double but added 14 kills. Irem Ucar finished with a season-high 61 kills.

The championship final will air on ESPN+.
