MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Florida A&M volleyball team (22-6, 14-2) concluded its regular-season schedule with several accolades and accomplishments: its first 20-win season since 2006, 18 sweeps, a nine-game winning streak (currently the longest active stretch in the Southwestern Athletic Conference), and a 3-2 victory over Alabama State (Nov. 14).
Â
The latest success also saw
Dominique Washington ascend FAMU's records list, where she currently possesses the sixth most kills in single-season history (459). The offense ran through Washington and
Jasmine Robinson Sunday afternoon, as the two contributed 28 and 13 kills, respectively.Â
Â
Florida A&M claimed the opening set by a score of 25-22 before trading the following three, 20-25, 25-10, and 27-29. Neither team was willing to let the other cruise to victory -- the last two sets required extra points -- and there were 25 ties in the fourth and fifth alone.Â
Â
In fact, FAMU trailed 11-8 in the final frame before embarking on a ferocious 4-0 run. Each team led by as many as two points until Washington and
Irem Ucar connected for set point and an ASU attacking error secured the win.Â
Â
The SWAC Tournament runs Nov. 19 - 21 and will be hosted by Alabama A&M. Be sure to visit FAMUAthletics.com in the coming days for additional information on opponents and start times. Â
