Rattlers Sweep Competition in SWAC Cluster

GRAMBLING, La. | It doesn't matter the location. Home or away, the Florida A&M volleyball team will take care of business. The Rattlers were unbeatable in the second round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) cluster, where it defeated Grambling State (3-0), Texas Southern (3-2), and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3-0). The latter concluded its appearance in Louisiana Sunday morning (Oct. 31).

Set No. 1 of the finale quickly escalated for a 25-10 score; however, the second was a little more contentious. The Rattlers rallied from behind to even things quite a few times, and momentum swung in their favor after an assisted block by Irem Ucar and Aybuke Kocabiyik. The effort led to three unanswered points for FAMU and a 21-18 advantage, which it never relinquished.

Dominique Washington led all scorers with 13 kills entering the third set and she finished with a match-high 19. The outside hitter was instrumental in the Rattlers' third set success, which saw the team lead, trail, tie, and trail again until an 8-0 run lifted it ahead, 20-16. This time, the edge stuck en route to FAMU's 15th sweep of the year.

Isis Williams added 10.5 points on six kills and six total blocks, while Jasmine Robinson and Kocabiyik recorded double-digit digs at 18 and 10, respectively.

The Rattlers will have one final regular-season match inside Al Lawson Center this Friday, as they play host to Bethune-Cookman at 6 p.m.
