Rattlers Secure Home-Opening Win

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Florida A&M volleyball makes winning look so easy. The team took to Al Lawson Center for the first time this season and required less than 1.5 hours to secure its eighth sweep of the year.

Morning play Sunday (Oct. 10) concluded in a 25-9, 25-15, 25-22 decision over Prairie View A&M.

There were eight service aces in the first set alone, and it seemed everyone wanted in on the action. A 3-all stalemate ended with Dominique Washington at the line to serve, and the graduate outside hitter recorded back-to-back aces to push the Rattlers ahead for good. Irem Ucar and Emerald Jacobs joined in on the fun with two aces each, as the set concluded with a SA for the final 25-9 score. Stellar play poured into the next frame with a 10-0 start for FAMU, while defensive pressure limited the opposition to single-digits until late in the set.

The Rattlers never trailed in the second and third, but PVAM kept things interesting in the final set, as it clawed back from a 12-4 deficit to take its very first advantage of the match at 16-15. Back-and-forth play resulted in four ties from there until Jacobs recorded the go-ahead kill (20-19).

Washington finished with a game-high 19 points while Jacobs added 10. Both notched eight digs to trail Jessa Long's 13. Ucar also added 26 assists. The Sunday doubleheader continues with a 7 p.m. match versus Alcorn State.
