An Undefeated Sunday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Florida A&M volleyball team handily defeated  Alcorn State Sunday (Oct. 10) evening to crown its home-opening doubleheader, 2-0. A pair of sweeps accented the undefeated day - 25-9, 25-15, 25-22  versus Prairie View A&M and 25-16, 25-17, and 25-11 against the Lady Braves - as the Rattlers moved to 12-5 overall, 4-1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The decision also marked Gokhan Yilmaz's 50th career win as a head coach. He took over coaching duties at FAMU in August of 2018 and has since compiled 33 wins with the Orange and Green.

The Rattlers' offensive skill is a regular topic of discussion, but their defensive prowess is equally impressive. The team limited its opponents to 17 points or fewer in five sets Sunday while also dominating nearly every statistical category. It outscored ASU, 62-29, and held advantages in hitting percentage (.410-.083), service aces (9-2), digs (49-37), and total blocks (5-3).

FAMU officially put Alcorn in its rearview mirror after taking a 12-4 advantage at the start of the third. Emerald Jacobs (13), Dominique Washington (12), and Aybuke Kocabiyik (11.5) each recorded double-digit points, and Washington also tied Irem Ucar for a game-high 13 digs.

FAMU welcomes Southern University to Al Lawson Center Monday at 1 p.m.
