Florida A&M falls to NDSU and SELA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. | The Florida A&M University softball team completed the second day of the Bubly Invitational with a pair of losses, falling 6-0 to North Dakota State to open the day and concluding the day with an 8-2 loss to Southeastern Louisiana at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.

Game 1 – North Dakota State 6, Florida A&M 0
The Lady Rattlers rapped out a season-high eight hits, led by third baseman Hera Varmah with two hits, including one double. Destiny Cuevas registered a triple, while Jamesia Stoudemire, Brandice Boatwright, Seriah Brokenborough, Natasha Fox and Shayla Boyd each recorded a hit.
 
Boatwright (0-3) got the start in the circle for FAMU, working 5.2 innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits, with one strikeout and three walks. Nadia Zenteno came on to record the final out of the sixth, giving up no hits, with one walk, in 0.1 of an inning.
 
North Dakota State (3-4) had 10 hits in the game, striking early by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first, then closed out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
 
Game 2 – Southeastern Louisiana 8, Florida A&M 2
Gabrielle Williams (0-4) took the loss, pitching a full seven innings, allowing eight runs (five earned) on 12 hits, with three strikeouts against three walks.
 
After surrendering a pair of runs in each of the first two innings, Williams tossed four scoreless innings before the Lions got four runs in the top of the seventh, including a three-run homer by Ella Manzes.
 
The Lady Rattlers scored their two runs in the bottom of the third when Melkayla Irvis ripped an RBI triple to center, scoring Shayla Boyd, who reached on a single. Irvis later scored FAMU's second run on an RBI single by Brandice Boatwright.
 
FAMU finished the game with seven hits, led by Boatwright with two hits and an RBI; Irvis with an RBI triple, and Jamesia Stoudemire, Natasha Fox, Seriah Brokenborough and Shayla Boyd with singles.
 
WHAT'S NEXT: 
Florida A&M wraps up play at the Bubly Invitational on Sunday against eighth-ranked Florida. First-pitch is set for 2 p.m. from Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
