Lady Rattlers drop pair at UF Tourney

GAINESVILLE, Fla. | The Florida A&M University softball team opened play Friday morning in the 2020 Bubly Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium, dropping two games against Southeastern Louisiana and Longwood.
 
Game 1 – Southeastern Louisiana 6, Florida A&M 1
In Friday's opener against Southeastern Louisiana, the Lady Rattlers fell behind 2-0 after two innings and cut the deficit to 2-1 in the top of the third, when pinch runner Shontell Cliatt scored from third on a throwing error.
 
SLU scored two more runs in the bottom of the third and tallied a run in the fourth, extending their lead to 5-1 after four innings.
 
The Lions added a final run in the bottom of the fifth to close out the game's scoring.
 
Jamesia Stoudemire led FAMU's three-hit attack with two hits, followed by Alexis Blasingane with one hit.
 
Nadia Zenteno (0-2) took the loss for FAMU, after allowing six runs on 13 hits, striking out two, while walking two.
 
Game 2 – Longwood 8, Florida A&M 0
In Friday's second game, Longwood got off to the races early, scoring once in the second inning, and two runs each in the third and fourth to build a 5-0 lead.
 
Longwood closed out the game in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs to invoke the eight-run rule after five innings.
 
FAMU finished the game with four hits, three coming from Stoudemire, and one from Melkayla Irvis..
 
Gabriella Williams (0-3) got the pitching decision in the circle for FAMU in Game Two, allowing eight runs on 12 hits. She walked three hitters with non strikeouts
 
WHO'S ON DECK
Florida A&M returns to tournament play on Saturday with a pair of games, starting at 9 a.m. against North Dakota State. The Lady Rattlers wrap up the second day with a 7 p.m. game against Southeastern Louisiana.
