TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Florida A&M University softball team faced their third straight Top 25 foe this season, falling to No. 5 Florida State, 10-2 in five innings Wednesday night at JoAnne Graff Field on the FSU campus.
FAMU (0-5) fell behind 9-0 after three innings, before getting on the board with a two-out tally in the top of the fourth,
Kayaamari Jones reached on a two-out Seminole error, eventually scoring on
Seriah Brokenborough's RBI single up the middle for a 9-1 count.
After FSU scored a run in the bottom of the fourth extend the lead to 10-1, FAMU made it 10-2 when
Shayla Boyd reached on a leadoff single in the fifth, scoring later on an RBI double to left by
Brandice Boatwright.
FAMU finished the night with four hits, to eight for the Seminoles (6-0).
Gabrielle Jones (0-2) took the loss for FAMU, allowing five runs on four hits in one full inning of work.
Nadia Zenteno came to work three innings of relief, allowing five runs on four hits with two strikeouts.
WHAT'S NEXT:
Florida A&M will play in the University of Florida's Bubly Invitational, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Gainesville, Fla. The Lady Rattlers will meet Southeastern Louisiana (11:30 a.m.) and Longwood (2 p.m.) on Friday, followed by games against North Dakota State (9 a.m.) and Southeastern Louisiana (7 p.m.) on Saturday. FAMU closes out the weekend against No. 8 Florida at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
